Zac "Little Wahoo" McDaniel - Funking Conservatory Teen Program
They are big shoes to fill every step of the way. Former President
of the United States
George Bush coached Wahoo McDaniel as a Pony League base ball player
in Midland,
Texas. President George Bush said, "I'll always remember Wahoo as
a wonderful kid who
captured the imagination of West Texas in the 1950s. He was idolized
and worshiped by
everyone who knew him."
I remember the first time I ever heard of Wahoo McDaniel in 1956
when I opened the
Saturday morning Amarillo Globe News football special and read the
headline, "Wahoo
and Tribe Run Over the Amarillo Golden Sandstorm. I thought, "How
could a high school
football player have a name like Wahoo. He went on to play football
for Oklahoma
University, the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and Denver Broncos.
In the off season,
this superstar football player wrestled for my father, Dory Funk
Sr. in the Amarillo Territory.
I am honored to say, he wrestled many times as my tag team partner.
Later in my career, as
NWA World Champion, I faced my toughest match in Houston, Texas
against Chief Wahoo
McDaniel. We wrestled each other for ninety minutes to a draw.
Chief Wahoo McDaniel went on to build a reputation as one of the
toughest men in professional
wrestling and at the same time set attendance records everywhere
he wrestled from the
Mid Atlantic to Madison Square Garden to Florida Championship Wrestling.
Chief Wahoo
was also one of the most loved men in professional wrestling.
Now his son, Zac McDaniel who will wrestle as "Little Wahoo" will
be attending the Funking
Conservatory to train as a professional wrestler. We will do our
best to give him all the
wisdom and training necessary to become the new "Chief Wahoo McDaniel."
