The decision to work with our motherland began many years
ago, since childhood. We were blessed children of God to be the Sons and
Daughters of Clara Bell Downing.
She was blessed with the spirit of giving. She passed that gift on to us through our Lord. I remember my sister as a little girl walking about 2-3 miles to the Reddick post office to mail 2 dollars to "Feed the Children Foundation." She often stated "I could always somehow visualize myself being in Africa amongst my people."
As a child, we knew what it meant to be poor based on one factor. Being Black in America somehow sent the message that we were poor. That is another story.
The story of Africa has never been truthfully told. There was never a Tarzan or a Jungle Jim. Although that is the message we received as children. Now I with the support of the family have gone first hand to bring the positive truth about our Motherland! The communities I visited were of a proud and hardworking people. Our mission there and sitll today is for us coming together and believing that we can break the chains of negative sterotypcs that has created and sustained both a sense of low self-esteem in Africcn Americans and Africans that's evidenced in so many ways!
There's so much more to come. I have tested the waters for us all to travel as a family to help improve the educational bounties that has stunned the groth in Africa in many economic ways. There's a quote/ "You can give a man a fish and he will eat for that day; however, if you teach him how to fish he will eat every day." Our mother had an 8th grade education; however, she wanted more for her children. She insisted deucation for all of us. Now today we all have a Master's degree or higher in education. So our goal is to help the less priveleged children in Kenya achieve their educational goals by providing them with school tuitions, including books, clothing and minimal family support in a monetary means.
We are building this foundation in the name of our precious "Mother Clara Bell Dowing educating children around the world."
