For those of you who like to get up early, !BANG! moves back to it’s original time slot on Saturdays at 6:30 AM starting August 25, the day of the live !BANG! TV tapings at the Dory Funk Arena.Wrestler Interviews
The following interview was with 2 very special guests. The Funking Conservatory Women's Champion, Summer Rain, and the 3-time !BANG! TV Champion, Brent Cameron Dail.Sign Guy: Summer, Brent will be joining us shortly, but thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit and chat with me.
Summer Rain: Why you're welcome, sweetheart. It's just lovely to be here.
SG: Where do you and Brent reside?
SR: We live in Lakeland, FL. We've been there for quite sometime.
SG: Are you originally from Lakeland?
SR: Yes, we both are.
SG: How long have the two of you been wrestling?
SR: This is our twentieth camp, so I've been wrestling almost 2 years. Brent has been wrestling for about eleven years. He was an All-American, won many state titles, went to the Junior Olympics, and lots of other things. He's had a very successful career.
SG: How did you get into wrestling?
SR: I've always loved wrestling, and I used to love Chyna. She was my favorite. I always wanted to be a small ripped Chyna or like a ripped Barbie doll with muscles. I thought if she could do it, I could do it to.
SG: Is that how you got your start?
SR: Brent was doing it and he was so happy. We decided to do it as a couple so it would insure that we would stay together. It seemed like a good idea.
SG: As for your status, there are some people that don't know that you and Brent are a real life couple, engaged I might add??
SR: Yes, we've been engaged for quite a while now. We've been dating for three years. We love every minute of it. We live together, work together, work at the Funking Conservatory together, and we thoroughly enjoy ourselves. It's the most fun we've had in our lives.
SG: Do you mind if I ask if you've set a wedding date?
SR: Not yet. We've been very busy with our wrestling and our schedule is so hectic. Things like that take lots of time and preparation. We were thinking of maybe getting married in the wrestling ring with Dory & Marti as our witnesses, but things are still up in the air.
SG: That would be something.
SR: Yes, but do not tell Adam Windsor. He may try to ruin things.
SG: What kind of hobbies do you and Brent like to participate in away from the ring?
SR: We enjoy singing karaoke. Every Monday night we sing karaoke together. We put on a show with lights, smoke, and regulars who come out to see us. We also do swing dancing together. We go out to swing dancing clubs and tear the house down. I took dance lessons for ten years. We also take tumbling lessons together to help us with our backflips. We enjoy doing things together because we do the best things together.
SG: Wonderful. Oh, joining us now is Brent Cameron Dail. Welcome.
Brent Cameron Dail: Thank you for having me here.
SG: Summer was giving us the lowdown on your background such as where you were from and some of your wrestling acomplishments. Did you also wrestle in high school?
BCD: Yes I did. I was a state runner-up, athlete of the year, and I hold the record for most pins in a single season with 29 victories with 28 falls. I've won state freestyle and greco-roman championships.
SR: He was also named Master of the Headlock because he could take anyone out with a headlock. My man.
SG: I understand from a source that you have been looked at by Gerry Brisco of the WWF.
BCD: Yes I was. He recommended me to Dory and told me that Dory would treat me right. I went to wrestling camp with Mr. Brisco and I met Kurt Angle there. Kurt told us that Dory would treat us right and that we were going to a great man. Ever since I've been here it's been great.
SG: And like Kurt would say, "It's true, it's true.".
SR: Definitely. Every few months we get to meet up with Gerry to show him our video tapes and show him what we are doing. We also give him our recommendations from Dory and Marti. He let's us know that when we're ready for the WWF, he'll be on top of things.
BCD: He told me to gain a little weight and get bigger. Summer is a great cook and takes good care of me.
SG: Do you cook for her too?
BCD: Yes I do. Summer is my motivator and one of the best coaches I've ever had.
SR: I'm picky.
BCD: She is picky. She's like a drill sargeant. She really pushes me to go to the next level and I love her for that.
SR: Aww, thank you Sweetie.
SG: Do you push each other to get to that next level?
BCD: Yes we do. We have to.
SR: If you don't do it, you die.
SG: That's one of those special things about being a couple by doing it together.
SR: Oh it's great. We have the most stress free relationship because we get it all out in the ring. By that time we're too sore to fight.
SG: If Brent does get picked up by the WWF you go as a package, The Deadly Package?
BCD: Most definitely.
SR: You know, this is a new age for wrestling because we are something different and we're trying to prove that wrestling is more than just fighting. It's sports entertainment and we're here to entertain you and give you a good time, a good show, and to make you enjoy something about you that you see in us.
SG: I remember the first time I saw the two of you in person after reading about you in Dory's 1wrestling.com column. Just by watching, I saw that both of you enjoy going out to the ring and putting on some of the greatest performances I personally have seen. The crowd loves you. They love you both.
SR: Thanks, we appreciate that.
BCD: Exactly. Wrestling for the audience is probably one of the greatest rushes I've ever felt in my life. I'm out there to entertain the people and put on a good show. Summer and I are out to prove that we are The Deadly Package and we are going to knuckle up and get down, and that we are going to make everybody glad that they showed up to see us wrestle.
SG: Brent, who would be your dream opponent be?
BCD: Kurt Angle because he has changed the wrestling business as we know it today. Kurt has revolutionized and brought wrestling back as a sport and has made wrestling wrestling again. He has made it entertaining again and what people want to watch. That makes me want to acomplish what he has and help bring it to another level.
SG: Summer who would your dream opponent be?
SR: It would be Lita of course. She is so wonderful and has so much feminism and is so strong in the same sense. I love what she has brought to the business. She has made wrestling for women entertaining by not using the scratching or hair pulling. I would like to wrestle her because she has a true attitude, a great spirit and she is a true athlete.
SG: Where do the two of you see you careers going in the next five years?
SR: I'd love to be on top of the world, but I hope we're in the WWF by then. We want to move in that direction and be wrestling full time.
BCD: We want to go to the top
SR: We want to change history. That's what we're here to do, to show someone something different, something new, and to make you believe in us. Believe in us and we won't let you down.
SG: Summer, how have you liked working with the women in this camp?
SR: It is so wonderful to have other women wrestlers here. It's great to see females fighting in this sport. I really do enjoy having two great athletes such as Cleopatra and Simply Luscious here. They are both true workers. They've learned the ring and trained with Dory, so they're learning from the best. I'm enjoying every minute of showing feminality in sports and I can't do that without another female. So anytime, anywhere, if there's a woman who want's to take on Summer Rain, let's do it. I'm ready to fight for the world.
SG: Exactly, because I saw you in your practice match tonight and it looked like you were ready to tear Cleo apart.
SR: I can't help but be agressive. It's my style.
SG: True. What I meant was that I've never seen you so agressive before.
SR: You see, I don't want to hurt the guys. We girls can take it. We're stronger, we're tougher, and we've got a big attitude.
SG: Any final thoughts, Summer?
SR: I just want to say thank you, Sign Guy, for allowing us to do this. We love wrestling and there's nothing we'd rather do more.
SG: And I thank both of you again for taking time to do this interview. It's been a great pleasure to sit with you both and talk about the Funking Conservatory, the business, and your careers.
BCD: My final thought I'l tell you right now. We are here to do our best and learn from the best. We have learned from the best in Dory Funk Jr. and we will continue to learn from the best and do the best job we possibly can and do the best job for the business.
SG: Well, thank you again. Good luck to both of you and we all hope to see you in the WWF sometime in the near future.
SR & BCD: You will. Thanks.
Conservatory Female Wrestlers
The following two interviews were conducted with the female athletes in this week's camp. The first interview was conducted with Anne Phieffer, who wrestles under the name The Living Dead Girl Cleopatra.Sign Guy: Cleo, thank you for joing me.
Living Dead Girl Cleopatra: You're welcome.
SG: Where do you live?
LDGC: Pennsylvania.
SG: How long have you been wrestling?
LDGC: About three months.
SG: That's when you got your start?
LDGC: Yes.
SG: Did you start training with Dory or someone else?
LDGC: I started training with Dory.
SG: Have you wrestled anywhere else other than the Funking Conservatory?
LDGC: Yes, I've wrestled at The House Of Pain Wrestling Federation in Hagerstown, Maryland.
SG: What kind of things do you like to do away from the ring?
LDGC: I like to hang out with my friends and work with fingernails. I'm a licensed nail technician.
SG: Any hobbies?
LDGC: Anything to do with wrestling.
SG: Your personal status?
LDGC: I don't have time to date right now with my schedule the way it is.
SG: Who is your dream opponent?
LDGC: Lita.
SG: What is it about Lita?
LDGC: Honestly, she's just very inspirational.
SG: Where would you like to be in your career in the future?
LDGC: The WWF would be great. If not, maybe somewhere in Japan or Europe. If Europe, I would love to work with Chris The Bambi Killer.
SG: Also the independent circut?
LDGC: Probably.
SG: What are your thoughts on Summer Rain and the Funking Conservatory Women's Championship?
LDGC: Summer is a very good wrestler. I love working with her. Eventually, I would love to take the title from her. If not, then I'm not going down without a fight.
SG: Any final thoughts?
LDGC: I'nm just here to have a good time. If I make it big, I make it big. It doesn't bother me if I don't make any money, I'm here to learn from the best.
SG: Cleo, thank you again and good luck to you in your career and future endeavors.
LDGC: Thank you.
The next interview I conducted was with the other female wrestler in camp, Veronica, who wrestles under the name Simply Luscious.
Sign Guy: Welcome to the Funking Conservatory.
Simply Luscious: Thank you.
SG: Tell us a little about yourself.
SL: I'm 28 years old and I'm from San Antonio, Texas.
SG: How long have you been wrestling?
SL: It's been about a year and a half now.
SG: How did you get your start?
SL: I started training at Shawn Michaels' wrestling school.
SG: Oh, wow. What is HBK really like?
SL: He's awesome.
SG: Have you wrestled anywhere other than Texas?
SL: No, just in Texas. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, all over Texas.
SG: What do you do away from the ring?
SL: I like to train, work out, help teach wrestling, and I work as a waitress.
SG: Any hobbies?
SL: Besides the things I described before, I love watching really bad scary movies.
SG: As for your personal status?
SL: I'm seeing someone.
SG: Where do you see your career going?
SL: I hope to one day be in the WWF.
SG: The WWF, no questions asked?
SL: No questions asked, definitely.
SG: What is it about the WWF?
SL: They have good storylines and great competition. That's where I want to be.
SG: Who would you say is your one dream opponent?
SL: Molly Holly.
SG: Why would you say Molly Holly?
SL: I've never had a good quality match with another girl before. I think we would work good together in giving the fans an actual wrestling match without the eye gouging or hair pulling.
SG: How about a match with Lita?
SL: She's super. I would like to work with her too. She did a show with us in San Antonio last year when she was with Essa Rios.
SG: Since being in the Funking Conservatory, what are your thoughts on the Funking Conservatory Women's Championship and the champion, Summer Rain?
SL: Summer is a very nice person and I've enjoyed working with her. It's wonderful to work with other women because I don't get that opportunity all that much. As for the title, I would give Summer 100% of everything I've got.
SG: Any final thoughts?
SL: I'm just glad I had the opportunity to train with Dory Funk Jr. amd learn things I hadn't learned yet.
SG: Well, thank you for joining me and when you get home tell Shawn I said hello.
SL: I will. Thanks.
Fantasy Match
Starting this month, the !BANG! newsletter will be publishing fantasy matches between Funking Conservatory stars and the stars of the big promotions. Here is our very first fantasy match.
SUMMER RAIN
vs
LITA
The introductions were made before the match started. The lovely Lita came to the ring accompanied by her boyfriend, Sign Guy, and the dainty, but deadly, Summer Rain came to the ring accompanied by her fiancee, Brent Cameron Dail. The match began with a lockup, but Lita got the early advantage with an armlock. Lita then picked up Summer, whipped her into the ropes, and hit her in the face with an elbow. Lita went right for the pinfall, but only managed a two count. The former WWF Women's Champion then attempted to whip Summer into the ropes again, but Summer reversed the whip and put Lita in a powerslam. Summer went for the three count, but only got two. Summer then kicked Lita in the ribs, picked Lita up, and executed a huge bodyslam. Summer then stood Lita on her feet, and nailed her with a nice standing dropkick. The Funking Conservatory Women's Champion then went to the top rope and executed the Bombshell on Lita. Summer had this match won, but somehow Lita managed to kick out at two. Summer then applied a reverse chinlock on Lita. Summer once again whipped Lita into the ropes and put her into another powerslam. Summer did not follow up as she went and blew a kiss to Brent. Summer went to the top rope again and executed another Bombshell on Lita. Lita somehow kicked out at two once again, denying Summer the victory. As Summer went for a third Bombshell, Lita managed to meet Summer on the top rope and executed what's know as the Lita-Canrana. Lita then finished off Summer Rain with the Twist Of Fate. Lita made the cover asnd was awarded the win. This made Brent irate. He jumped into the ring and caught Lita in a T-bone suplex. That made Sign Guy furious. He jumped into the ring, screamed "NOBODY DOES THAT TO MY GIRLFRIEND!!!!", and gave Brent a spear. All heck broke loose as referees tried to break everyone up.Conservatory Alumni
This individual didn't exactly train in the Conservatory, but he is a student of Dory Funk Jr who recently has achieved much success. The man I'm talking about is named Edge. Edge entered the WWF in 1998 to a warm reception. His ring entrance was one of the most unusual by entering the ring area through the crowd. Shortly after entering the WWF, Edge made his PPV debut as the mystery tag team partner of Rena Mero, then known as Sable. They defeated Marc Mero and Jacqueline. Edge later joined with his brother, Christian, and Gangrel to form The Brood. Edge and Christian later broke away from the Brood and went on their own. One special memory Edge has was that he had the honor of wrestling against the late Owen Hart in Owen's last match just before his death. Since then, Edge and Christian have been WWF Tag Team Champions SEVEN times. As for Edge, in 2001 he has been multi-time tag champ, defeated Kurt Angle and Rhyno to become the 2001 King Of The Ring, and just recently at Summerslam became WWF Intercontinental Champion for a second time by defeating Lance Storm. The Funking Conservatory, along with Dory and Marti Funk, wishes Edge nothing but continued success in the years to come.Birthdays
A special belated Happy Birthday to new Conservatory student Patrick, who wrestles under the name A.K. Real. We also wish a special Happy Birthday in September to The Living Dead Girl Cleopatra.Gossip (or questions to ponder)
