At the top of Raw, Paul Heyman announced that despite all of the
controversy swirling around One Night Stand, Rob Van Dam was the new WWE
Champion. Because the match was an ECW Rules Match, everything that occurred
in the match was legal.
From the time I first met Rob Van Dam at a show in South Georgia, It was
evident he was going to make it big in professional wrestling.
Pay Heyman went on to say that Edge blatantly interfered and he (Heyman) did
make the three count as opposed to the original referee. He said that since
there were no rules in ECW, the title change counted. He said since Edge was
the number one contender, RVD would defend the title against him at
Vengeance and invited Edge to the premiere of ECW on Sci Fi tomorrow night.
In my first match against RVD in South, Georgia we wrestled to a time limit
draw. RVD wasn't satisfied and asked for five extra minutes which the
referee granted. After the overtime RVD wanted to continue. I had had enough
of RVD for the night and gratefully accepted the draw.
I wrestled RVD again in Japan and watched as he became one of the most
popular American wrestlers in a place where the work is hard, Especially
when he was facing the likes of Bruiser Brody, Stan Hansen, Giant Baba,
Jumbo Tsuruta, Steve Williams and Superfly Snuka every night.
RVD is at the top of the wrestling business. He is WWE Champion and the ECW
World Champion.
We are proud of the accomplishments of RVD and we wish him and Sonya a
hearty Congratulations.

There is a resurgence in interest in professional wrestling not seen since
the days of the WWE / WCW rating wars going head up on television in the same
time slot.
With a 3.1 rating on Wednesday night on USA Network ECW is off to a strong
start. They will present their first Pay Per View This Sunday night with One
Night Stand. TNA has done it's highest rating recently and will produce their
most interesting Pay Per View yet Sunday June 18th with their production of
Slammiversary and the King of the Mountain Match for the NWA World Championship
with Christian Cage defending. Raw's production of Vengeance is coming June 25th
at 7:30pm. Add to that coming Smackdown Pay Per View plus the various
productions of the Shoot Fighting and Ultimate Fighting companies and you can
see there have not been as many wrestlers working since the glory days of the
NWA and other territories in the 1970's. We are entering the most exciting time
in professional wrestling yet.
Our Attorney Jimmy Gooding has released another still frame of the Sabu /
Dory Funk Jr. match from the Funking Conservatory showing the expression of
surprise on the face of Referee, Claudia Reiff (The Claw) taken only a
fraction of a second before she was engulfed in the flame released from the hand
of Sabu. This astonishing photo is now available at our website.

Funk's Corner - King of the Mountain - Rules
Sam Muchnick is rolling over in his grave. Nick
Gulas would have a smile on his face, Eddie Graham would be intently
interested in a new concept and Dory Funk Sr. would be booking a version of
the King of the Mountain Match in Amarillo, Texas.
The King of the Mountain Match is an original
creation of TNA. Five wrestlers will compete for the NWA World Heavyweight
Championship.
NWA World Champion, Christian Cage, Former NWA
World Champion, Jeff Jarrett, Former NWA World Champion, Ron Killings,
Former WCW World Champion, Sting and Former NWA World Tag Team Champion,
Abyss with his manager James Mitchell.
Like other stipulation matches it is important
that you know the rules of the match. Just as it is important to know the
rules for football, basketball, hockey, NASCAR or soccer.
King of the Mountain Rules:
Five competitors including the NWA World
Heavyweight Champion all having equal opportunity.
King of the Mountain is similar to a ladder
match except you have to hang the belt instead of retrieving it.
The five competitors in the match start out as
"ineligible" to win. In order to earn eligibility, a wrestler must score a
pinfall or submission on an opponent which will allow them to retrieve the
belt and attempt to hang it by climbing one of the available ladders and
utilizing the hook suspended above the ring.
The opponent who is pinned or submitted is
forced to spend 2 minutes in a penalty box cage. In the event that a
wrestler is currently in the cage when another is forced to spend time
there, both men are left in the cage, often resulting in the two fighting
inside the cage or forming some sort of partnership.
A TNA official maintains control of the belt and
circles the ring staying out of the way of the action as much as possible.
When a wrestler wishes to hang the belt, he must retrieve it from the
official. Once the belt is in play, any other wrestler who is eligible may
attempt to steal the belt and hang it. Once the belt has been dropped and no
wrestler is attempting to hang it, a referee returns the belt to the
official.
In this the forth King of the Mountain Match,
NWA World Champion Christian Cage will be attempting to be the first to
remain NWA World Champion after entering the King of the Mountain Match.
In my opinion, Christian Cage and Jeff Jarrett
must be considered favorites because of their experience in stipulation
matches however they must overcome the athleticism of Ron Killings, the
viciousness of Abyss with the brains of James Mitchell and the power and
experience of Sting.
In late breaking news, Samoa Joe vs Scott
Steiner has been added to Slammiversary. For the complete card check this
website under the Pay Per View Heading.
Watch iMPACT! this Thursday at 12:00 midnight
on Spike TV. Then enjoy an evening of entertainment on Pay Per View Sunday
Night June 18th at 8:00pm Eastern 5:00pm Pacific.
